/!\ This is a particularly tricky race to pick a design for, let me explain why. The aceans are the biotechnological race. As such, there is no "standard" acaean shape, they just mix'match genes from here and there to serve specific functions within their society. In theory all five examples here could cohexist in-universe as different types of Aceans.
BUT there are still two things I would like to choose and this would be:

-A standard playable "skin style" for crews and ships and architecture:

1- Insectoid-like.. with lots of articulated parts, carapaces, little spikes and claws.
2- "Gigeresque" biomechanical with lots of tubes and shiny stuff. Expect a good deal of creepy uneasing stuff that reminds us of human anatomy.
3-Animalistic and or chimeric.. I'm not sure this drawing communicates the idea for this. But basically, everything else a space creature could be that has a defined, non-arthropodeal feel. It could be a combination of different aliens and or referencing vertebrate animals, scales, fur, etc.
4-Underwater Etereal. Wow, sounds like the name of some perfume.. anyway, remeber the aliens from the movie "The Abyss"? Well, then google them. This style should reference all those translucent and bioluminicent organism that move about in the sea.
Jelly fishes, sea slugs...
5- Organ-organic. Well this one is odd.. basically it looks like something alive turned inside-out. Crew and ships would be covered in stuff that looks like bone, muscle and.. organs.
Many Zerg structures look like this.

-THEN there is the -avarage structure of the individual-.
This is not so important, but even though there will always be -big- differences from character to character, I would like it to be some kind of tencency or theme within it. How does the avarage drone, or soldier of the aceans move around? What kind of creature would you like your avatar to be?

A- Insectoid. As having several legs arching around a central body.
Remeber this is -not- linked to the options above. That means your insectoid -avarage structure of the individual- could be convined with an animalistic chimeric or organ-organic -skin style-.
B- Humanoid. Again, maybe the avarage drone is a humanoid, in a Gigeresque skin, as pictured here, or maybe it's an insectoid, or underwatwer etereal style?
C- Something else.. probably a quadrupedal, or some other animalistic body structure.
D- What is that thing? I don't know what I'm doing anymore. I don't know.. some flying thing? that would be pretty cool actually.
But no, I think D would be Armonic Xenobiological at it's finest. I would try to design something quite armonious and beautiful that just isn't from this world to be the avarage structure.
E- Shapeless. Blobs and sthings that twist and other weird stuff.

So since the 3d models for the first acaean ship have already been dropped in the forums, is it safe to assume that youve already decided on a design? :o Which one did you choose if i may ask? :D
Chardor Featured By Owner Jan 4, 2013
nother question bout your races: so far most of the newer pictures of those things have something with them what i would, for the lack of a better term, call an embryo. A humanoid looking one.
So what about that? Is that some breeding device? or is the embryo actually the acaean and the creature we see more of a biological engineered body machine? Or is that just one specific acaean and im mistaken?
Rodrigo-Vega Featured By Owner Jan 14, 2013  Professional General Artist
That information has not yet been released :P
Hint: you got it pretty much right in one of the things you said.
Keep up creating fannon, you help us a lot :)
Chardor Featured By Owner Jan 14, 2013
its still quite gigerseque anyway.
Hmm, i supose their spaceships will be organic too?
I could see some rather interresting stuff happening there. Spaceship melee combat, ships spawning other ships mid combat...

hi!your work is featured in my journal, hope you don't mind!

Personally, I would have to say that number one is the best out of all of them in the sense that it looks the most distinctly alien. I mean, number five is also very alien-looking, but simultaneously it looks far less anatomically probable. If you were to take the insectoid approach, it would be an interesting motif to make all of their building materials be techno-organic chitin, and all of their machines actually be organisms designed specifically for one task. For instance, a computer might be something with a chromatophor-covered membrane that serves as a screen, and some weird exposed nerve structure to serve as the "tower". energy sources could just be enormous frills or sails that harvest energy from thin air, and factories would look more like gardens/laboratories, just to name a few ideas.

Does anyone se the chicken on nr 3s back or is it just me? Also, does nr 4 hold a bird cage? I love them all, but I would go with nr 4 if I could only pick one because it was the least "human" one and I think it would be awesome to have jellyfish conquering space! :D
Rodrigo-Vega Featured By Owner Jan 21, 2012  Professional General Artist
They do. All of them have some small pet with them.
Murder-Meatball Featured By Owner Jan 22, 2012  Hobbyist General Artist
That is just great! :) Love it! :D (I can see the salamander that nr 5 is holding now, clever)

I really like the third creature design I love the look of the head, and the tentacle wrapping around itself is great, but all your designs look superb.
changingcactus Featured By Owner Jan 19, 2012
dont think i'd wanna tangle with them.
Alekdrina Featured By Owner Jan 19, 2012  Hobbyist Filmographer
anyone else see a chicken on the back of the third drawing??
Egypt-Lad Featured By Owner Jan 17, 2012
Personally, I'd go for a Gigeresque skin, and probably some mix of humanoid, quadrupedal/animalistic/insectoid. Something which hints at being human, yet at the same time, a bit more beastly.
Just some thoughts, regardless it'll be fantastic, judging by all of your work ever :p

I find the three first designs not so very original but I totally LOVE the two last ones. More of that kind of alien aliens are needed in games.
Eldrahzak Featured By Owner Jan 8, 2012  Hobbyist Digital Artist
I think the second one have a particular appeal to it that the other doesn't share... when I distinguished that skull thing, it creeped me much more than the other one.

I believe it's the one with the most potential, it's head have what it take to be a major "emblematic" feature, it's original and "shocking".
GrizzlyKurtz Featured By Owner Jan 8, 2012  Student Traditional Artist
Personally I like the second one best. It's different enough to be considered alien, but human enough to be flat out disturbingly appealing. Also, what better way to show the incorporation of humans than to literally absorb them, make them a part of the acaean society. Plus, creepy architecture and ship mechanics make it an experience that will continue even in player's dreams! (nightmares, most likely, but sign a waiver and everythings fine)

The way you describe this race and the way the insectoid one was drawn its almost like your aiming for "The Thing" look and vibe.. all of the drawings are awesome though
bensen-daniel Featured By Owner Jan 8, 2012
baby animals!
Braise Featured By Owner Jan 7, 2012  Hobbyist
I venture and say that the fourth one wouldn't be able to survive in an earth-like atmosphere, unless it were confined to the bottom of the oceans, like the aliens from the Abyss (unless they were lighter than air). The abyss aliens were a mix of that fourth one but with humanoid features, probably in an attempt to make them appear more sympathetic.
Anyhow, awesome concepts!
Rodrigo-Vega Featured By Owner Jan 7, 2012  Professional General Artist
Very likely it´s lighter than air, picture it as an organic version of this:

I quite like all of these designs, especially the 'animalistic' and 'insectoid' ones, but I think that number 5 and letter D would provide you with an array of very awesome, plausable, xenobiological entities that would be quite unlike the other races of the game (I feel the 'insectoid' and 'animalistic' variations are too similar to two of the other alien designs you have already produced), and they would be rather bizare in their own right.

also, I quite like the ways you have been showing scale in these design comparisons, the wee animals here and the musical instruments of one of the other pages are very amusing means by which to do so!
Skull51 Featured By Owner Jan 7, 2012  Hobbyist General Artist
I really like numbers 2 and 3 and can't decide between the two on which I like more and I can't decide between the two which for of locomotion I like better either. Maybe a combination of 2 and 3?

Oh and all you people that only saw the pets in the first two, look closer, all of them have a pet. 3 has some bird (chicken?) sitting on its back. 4 is carrying its bird in a cage. 5 has either a mouse or hamster like pet in its hand.
Gopalik Featured By Owner Jan 7, 2012   Traditional Artist
I wonder if you could make creatures even less insect-like.
I realli like your line-style.

freaking amesome o_o

It's amazing how you come up with all those creatures!
And everything looks so real! Like you saw them in real life!
Also it's some kind of funny, how cute they look with their pets <3

No.1 and No.2 playing with a kitten and a puppy. I find that really cute.
Desmodeus Featured By Owner Jan 6, 2012  Hobbyist Traditional Artist
I've always had the impression that humanoid or insectoid would be the best arrangement for limbs.
Aesthetically, I've always been intrigued by bioluminescence and tentacle style appendages.

I'd probably put the locomotion style of 1 or 3 onto 2 if I was picking an avatar from this list, but I might always bemoan losing the ability to glow in the dark or have a giant tentacle in my spine. :P

I like the third and fourth a bunch, but they're all sooooooo good~

At first I was thinking: "Woah, these are incredible! Look at all the wonderfully grotesque details."
Then I saw the cute cat and dog in the first two images and started laughing :XD: Well played!
PariahJack Featured By Owner Jan 6, 2012  Student Digital Artist
i totally love the second one :o I want my Avatar to look like that one :O I think you should really color these :D
CharliKrok Featured By Owner Jan 6, 2012
BEAUTIFUL *french accent*
I just don't understand the fourth one ._.
Rodrigo-Vega Featured By Owner Jan 6, 2012  Professional General Artist
It has a sail and floats to and from and has thousands of little appendages too.
Emma-Fay Featured By Owner Jan 6, 2012  Student Digital Artist
Holy crap, I just spotted the cat you put with the second design xD And the puppy with the first. That's kind of hilarious.
I'd have to say my two favourites are the first and the third.
Zanizaila Featured By Owner Aug 4, 2012  Hobbyist Traditional Artist
And the chicken, the bird cage and the little axolotl (?) in the last one. ;)
kellllly Featured By Owner Jan 6, 2012  Student Digital Artist
Personally I think an insectoid body shape would work best with the different "skins".
MistaSilentKiller Featured By Owner Jan 6, 2012  Hobbyist Traditional Artist
i like the second design :)
