Novus Aeterno Humans by Rodrigo-Vega Novus Aeterno Humans by Rodrigo-Vega
I think this one is one of, if not the, largest digital pictures I've done in regard of number of figures and ammount of detail.
I was pretty pleased with the result.
What do you think?
It... always looks better in PS, you know, the color lights are bringhter, the contrasts more interesting.. and then what's up with those funny pixel-like squares? I wonder why that is.
Oh well.

Made for the upcoming MMORTS game Novus AEterno by Taitále Studios.

I've noticed that images tend to get discoloured or pixeled when saved as a JPEG. Probably due to the jpeg's RGB colour instead of CMYK combined with some compression.

Maybe try saving in .png or other formats?

Looks like Novus Aeterno is a little Warhammer 40k inspired (mostly just the giant guy with the medals on his armor)

no but they kinda created the whole style of "hey looks it's the catholic church IN SPACE" and named all their stuff in latin and jesus the style was just totally ripped from 40k

Using vintage aesthetics in sci-fi was not created at all by the people of games workshop. Check Star Wars. Classic-style buildings exist in our modern world of smartphones too so there is no reason why the wouldn't exist in the future. There is nothing medieval, catholic or latin or jesus in this picture. The 40K style also uses unholy ammounts of skulls and cartoonish armours and space orcs, spaces elves, space demons and space mummies that are nowhere to be seen in the novus universe. Where are the modern cities with flying cars in Warhammer as there are in this picture? The factions are nothing like warhammer, the aliens are NOTHING like warhammer, the technology is nothing like warhammer.
There is of course some influence in the easthetic. It's the actions sci-fi aesthetic of our age, and it isn't copied any more from WH40k than it is Star Craft's or Gears of War's and it borrows as many elements from it as it does from Blade Runner and a shitton of other sources.
I'm telling you all this because your comment comes as unnecesarry derogatory of the hard work of lots of people based on the simple out-of-the-ass conclussion that any given work is -exactly- like the currently most popular work in the genre after spoting one similarity, without any in depth analisis of the totality of either work or any third comparative material.

what i'm saying is the aesthetic is like, directly fucking ripped from wh40k for the sake of it being wh40k

the rest of the art direction may not be, but shit the human faction looks the same to me

*and fight the same space monsters and are only different from them in having an even less orginal space-helmet than the stormtrooper-ripoff helmets the 40k marines have?

(I was in a rush to leave while wrting that so I wrote some nonsese words :P )

There is nothing gothic here, the armors are not 5 times the size of a human body, there is only one tiny little skull in one weapons, there are 0 angry helmets or wing motifs, in fact there is no power armor here at all.
No one here looks remotely like anything from the Imperial Guard. None of those trademarks of warhammer humans is here. Not to speak about the ships that are no-where even remotely similar to anything at all in WH.
On the other side of the field there are those things that are here but not seen in HW40K, industrial style and devices or glass helmets like the big guy on the left, trival designs like the guy at the bottom right, people with no armor or implants whatsoever like the girl in the back? Have you not seen the beast tamers, space pirates and hobbos or anarchist or shaolin monks in my other sketches that neither look nothing like anything in 40k?
Have you not noticed anything about that, neither have you seen the similarities that -do- exist in other works, like that the marines from StarCraft have the -exact- same blue power-armour and are called also MARINES and fight the same space monsters and are other different from them in having an even less popular than the stormtrooper ripoff helmets the 40k marines have?
I feel I'm taking crazy pills..
