Proboscidea by Rodrigo-Vega Proboscidea by Rodrigo-Vega
Composition commissioned and currently in exhibition at the Argentinian Natural Sciences Museum (Museo Argentino de Ciencias Naturales "Bernardino Rivadavia").
As you might have already guessed it depicts some representative genres in the evolution of elephants.
It was also fun and special to work into, because it's the first time I used 3D professionally. I'll be uploading some thumbs of the unpainted 3D models I did any time soon, so stay tuned.

PS: Yes, I'm still alive.

Tenes algo que ver con las carreras de Ciencias Naturales? (creo que una vez vi una foto de tu webcam que estabas limpiando un esqueleto de algun bicho, o puede que ya estoy flasheando)

Loxodonta and Elephas are the only 2 still-living species, right?

Nope! As of 2010 The African forest elephant has been re-classified as a species different from the African bush elephant. Now we have 2 African elephants, Loxodonta africana and Loxodonta cyclotis.
3 Species Including the only living species of Elephas :)

Apparently not anymore, so said IRIRIV. He said the African Elephant was reclassified as 2 species, with the bush species separate from the plains/savannah species. Or something.

Great artwork man! Just a little science question: Why is the Loxodonta the only one with large ears?
Reply
:iconrodrigo-vega:
Rodrigo-Vega Featured By Owner Dec 19, 2013  Professional General Artist
Well, I draw it with the biggest ears because from the large elephants we know, Loxodonta is the one that lives in the hottest weather. African Elephants have the largest ears in order to irradiate as much heat as possible from the unforgiving African sun. Other elephants were larger but lived in cooler places or periods of time, and some others just weren't much bigger than any other ol' mammal.
