Savage Maneaters by Rodrigo-Vega Savage Maneaters by Rodrigo-Vega
Verunas> Savages> maneaters.

Verunasi are here! : D
Just a couple of teasers though.
Savage are the usually primitive tribes of the super-intelligent verunas. Maneaters are the arch-nemesis of human survivors fallen into the wrong planets.

Made to build up backstory for the upcoming MMORTS game Novus AEterno by Taitále Studios.

But would humans and verunas be biologically compatible?

Surprisingly they are, CHON chemistry is quite... convenient.. carbon has just the right number of electrons in its outer shell to be very versatile and not unlikely to be the base of other alien biologies.
The fact that the tides of verunasi empires have terraformed so many planets to their convenience for millions of years made it possible for later human empires to settle on these planets as they laid abandoned.

They are great, but I miss some sort of scale reference on the last one. Are they all around the same size?

No, the last one is actually a different species and its huge. You can see its standing on the remains of a poacher engine from the human hunters.

so is it save to assume that the monsterous wildlife of their homeworld is used as beasts of burden and/or war?

Hardly, they kinda fear/revere their own wildlife. The most advanced verunas cultures on the other hand just rather building machines, so thats about it.

well i thought about it because the veruna have been stated to have used slaves so i figured using creatures or even sentients from their homeworld would fit right in.
Is there any reason for them abandoning this parctice btw? By that i mean slaves.

Is the armour on their bodies just naturally grown bony/chitinous plates, or is it manufactured? It looks organic, and I'm guessing the different types are just of different ages? Or is it just the kind of aesthetic they like with their industry? :)

Surprisingly both. They do grow chitinous plates as they age, but their manufactured weapons and armor are also bones, claws and teeth ritually extracted from other creatures.

Cheers :)
Do they ever re-use the armour from their own dead?
That may sound a bit, squicky :s

verunasi are canivals by default as each hatchling eats all the smaller, weaker siblings from its spawn..
Yet I think most civilized verunasi "grow out" of that habit. It might vary from clan to clan, but I woulnd't be surprised ar all if they did.

Hell yeah! Barbarian-Tentacled-Dinosaurs FTW .... well, that was a string of words I'd never thought I'd say.

But either way, great work as usual.

Love the design of these aliens. Low-tech but super-intelligent is very cool.

That's cool. They have many cultures, just like humans do.
Do you have a schematic view of a veruna?

Yes, many sci-fy and most fantasy settings have a culture for each race, which sounds rather silly to me.
